No, you do not have to be an attorney or have a law degree to be the East Fork Justice of the Peace. It is NOT a requirement. The current East Fork Justice of the Peace does not have a law degree and is not an attorney and is regarded as a fantastic Justice Court Judge.
Technically, yes. However, the Judicial Code of Conduct discusses that even the "appearance" of impropriety is a potential violation of the Code. Therefore, for judicial candidates, it can be a slippery slope towards bias and favoritism. Jeff Schemenauer chose early in his campaign not to request or accept endorsements due to the Judicial Code of Conduct.
Yes, candidates are held to the same standards as elected judges.
